Gaby Tirta (b. Jakarta, Indonesia, 1989) is an interdisciplinary artist who explores what gets carried across oceans and generations, and what gets made new. Working across fiber art, printmaking, photography, and social practice, she weaves together textures of diaspora, family, and the spaces between cultures.

A designer by institutional training and an artist by way of living, Tirta spent years shaping visual narratives for others before turning her practice toward her own. Her design background informs how she constructs meaning: the relationship between word, image, and audience. Moving from the layered logic of textile traditions and the precision of graphic design, her practice lingers where cultural inheritance, personal mythology, and material storytelling collide.

She studied batik and natural dye techniques at Threads of Life in Ubud, Bali. Her community-based and interactive projects have been commissioned by the Regional Arts & Culture Council. She lives and practices in Portland, Oregon, supported by a RACC grant to continue developing her textile practice.
